NHS Estates has issued requirements for NHS Trusts to address access issues under Section 21 of the DDA 1995, and also under additional criteria specified in the NHS Audit Check List.

Putting visitors and patients at ease, and assisting user friendliness and orientation by removing obstacles are almost as important as medical and nursing care in this environment, particularly considering the vast numbers of people passing through health building, be it hospitals or health centres.
