Accessible Bedroom Packs

The pack is compiled by adaptable and is intended to assist people with a hearing impairment. It is possible that guests with physical disabilities, including wheelchair users, may also have multiple disabilities, including hearing impairment.

It is therefore essential that all fully independent wheelchair user accessible bedrooms, and those classed as partially accessible bedrooms should have the pack installed at all times. Guests should be able to retain their dignity and privacy, without having to ask for the equipment to be installed.

A hearing impaired person may not have physical disabilities, and therefore can occupy a standard bedroom, so that a hotel or guest house should have a minimum of one pack, dependent on numbers of bedrooms, to allow inclusion when it is known that a guest has a hearing impairment. (The booking system should be geared to establishing this in advance)

The Accessible Bedroom Pack comprises: Infralight TV sound enhancer, Deafguard alarm pillow vibrator, Panic alarm battery operated (optional) & Large button remote control (optional)

Infralight Receiver for televisions

This device gives a wireless connection between transmitter and receiver, A scart socket lead plugs into the television, and the small "magic eye" transmitter sits on or near the set (including seat for receiver when not in use). The equipment then works on an infra red principle, with either a neck loop or a set of headphones, for the guest , having a 4m wireless range. If the guest wears a hearing aid with a T switch, then the neck loop is used (acting like a sound induction loop, converting the signal to the same wavelength as the hearing aid), or the headset can be used by a person who is hard of hearing, but either does not wear a hearing aid. Or has a digital aid without T switch. For this reason, if more than one pack supplied, we recommend some with headsets, as an alternative to the neckloop.

Deafgard

This plugs into a standard socket and should be placed on the bedside cabinet (at the wide side that allows wheelchair access in fully accessible bedroom). It can act as a clock alarm, but is primarily designed as an alerting device in the event of emergency. The vibrator pad is placed under the pillow, and in the event of the fire alarm going off, and emitting a 65 decibel noise at bedhead, triggers the vibrator.

Wireless Toilet Alarm

Each accessible bedroom should have an emergency panic alarm cord, in the bedroom to the side of the bed giving wheelchair access, and in the bathroom, accessible from the toilet and bath/shower area. If there is need to convert in an existing hotel bedroom, without wishing to carry out extensive electrical rewiring so the system is wired into the overall fire alarm, then the battery operated alarm could be the answer. It has a range usually up to 100m, between the alarm at the pull cord, and the receiver unit, but this may depend upon layout and construction of the building. The portable receiver can be on reception desk or office, and gives an alert when the cord is pulled. It can then be reset, and the system also alerts when batteries are running low. A single unit has the portable receiver, but for multiple locations, a plug in unit can be installed on reception desk, that can alert for each bedroom or bathroom to specified locations on the board.

Large Button Remote Control

Of assistance to people with varying degrees of visual impairment. It has large buttons with tactile letters and numbers and clear colour contrasted symbols and text. The pack should supplement other adaptations and facilities within the guest's bedroom , which will enable a disabled person' stay to be a comfortable and enjoyable one.
